Jenny Franklin was born in Durban in 1949. She has extensive training in art including; a degree in Fine Art from the University of Natal, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Art and Design from Goldsmith's College London, an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art, London and in 1988 Franklin was awarded a painting scholarship by the British School at Rome.
Her work is informed by her deep connection with aspects of landscape. Her paintings may be non-topographical, but Franklin's daring use of colour and range of texture instil in her works the very essence of the place that she paints. Franklin's fascination with botany and natural history are also evident in her art.
