The exhibition celebrates the launch of a major new biography of Alan Lowndes written by Jonathan Riley, which I hope you will enjoy reading. Lowndes is known for his humorous depictions of Stockport streets, mills, parks and the iconic viaduct, he created scenes for his characters to inhabit, where they carried out everyday activities like hanging out the washing or eating fish and chips.
This exhibition brings together paintings from private collectors across the UK, and pieces from Stockport’s own permanent collection. It has been developed by Stockport Art Gallery in partnership with the Crane Kalman Gallery.
